APC to resolve Fubara, Wike crisis

Rivers State lawmakers loyal to former governor and FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has suspended all expenditures by Governor Siminalayi Fubara until he presents his budget to the lawmakers. This decision was made during a plenary session on Monday, following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to the governor to present his budget for the 2024 fiscal year. The federal government has dragged Daily Trust Newspapers before the National Media Complaints Commission (NMCC), otherwise known as the Ombudsman, over its story on the Samoa agreement. A statement by NMCC on Sunday acknowledged receipt of the federal government’s complaint and added that investigation into the matter had commenced. The statement was signed by Emeka Izeze and Feyi Smith, chairman and interim secretary of NMCC, respectively. The Lagos State Police Command says it has detained one of its officers who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl at the Area H Command, Ogudu. Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has ordered the closure of Saints Academy in Jos, which collapsed on Friday, killing over 22 persons.
