The federal government has dragged Daily Trust Newspapers before the National Media Complaints Commission (NMCC), otherwise known as the Ombudsman, over its story on the Samoa agreement. A statement by NMCC on Sunday acknowledged receipt of the federal government’s complaint and added that investigation into the matter had commenced. The Lagos State Police Command says it has detained one of its officers who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl at the Area H Command, Ogudu. The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, July 14. Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has ordered the closure of Saints Academy in Jos, which collapsed on Friday, killing over 22 persons. The state Commissioner for Information, Musa Ashoms, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Jos, the state capital. Ashoms said Muftwang gave the order during a visit to the site of the collapsed building at the Busa Buji community as well as hospitals where the injured were receiving treatment on Saturday.
