Gunmen suspected to be armed bandits, on Saturday, ambushed troops of the Nigerian Army in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing four soldiers in the process. The sole administrator of the council, Umar Balle, disclosed this on Sunday while speaking with journalists. Balle, who was among those ambushed by the bandits, escaped the assault by the whiskers. He said so far, four soldiers died, and seven others were wounded as a result of gunshots in addition to the burning of their vehicle. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted illicit drugs worth millions of naira during a recent nationwide intelligence-led operation. NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, said 2.32kg of cocaine concealed in Ghanaian traditional fabric (Kente) en route to the United Kingdom was intercepted at a courier firm in Lagos on August 5.
