At least 547 secondary school girls were pregnant during the lockdown necessitated by coronavirus pandemic in Benin Republic. Lagos State Government in collaboration with Kebbi Government and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will begin the sales of rice before Christmas celebration to residents. This was made known by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms Abisola Olusanya on Monday in Lagos. Ms Olusanya said that about 100,000 bags of 50 kg were being expected for sales at N20,000 per bag. The World Bank has approved Nigeria’s loan request of $1.5 billion to help the most populous African country in it’s COVID-19 action recovery and economic stimulus plan. The loan is also targeted at helping Nigeria reduce poverty and promote sustained private sector-led growth. The Speaker announced his resignation in a letter titled ‘Notification of Resignation’ dated December 14 and addressed to the Clerk and Permanent Secretary. Abductors of pupils of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State, took the boys away on motorcycles, the military said Monday night. The assailants came to the school premises on Friday night, shot dead one of the two policemen on guard, incapacitated the other and entered the facility. They shoot sporadically into the air. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced 201 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Monday. The 201 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 73,374. The NCDC also announced the discharge of 224 patients from isolation centers across the country with no new death reported.
