The People’s republic of China has granted 470,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Nigeria. The donation was lauded by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire as he accepted the kind gesture from the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Cui Jianchun. The Chinese ambassador stated that the donation was as due to the good relationship between Nigeria and China. He noted that the efforts to eliminate the COVID-19 pandemic required the collaboration of all countries. A Federal High Court Ikoyi has refused requests by 11 political parties to halt the holding of the Chairmen and Councillors election into the 57 Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State. The Central Bank of Nigeria has said it will launch its digital currency following an advice by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo that cryptocurrency should be regulated not banned. The decision to launch its digital currency was reached during a private webinar on Thursday in which the CBN said about 80 per cent of central banks worldwide are exploring issuing digital currencies. A Sokoto state High court has sentenced one Joseph Oladapo Philips to ten years in prison over $18,700 internet fraud. The accused who is an undergraduate of the Sokoto State University was arrained for posing as a US soldier serving in Afghanistan thereby obtaining the funds by impersonation. The unemployment crisis in Nigeria has hit all-time low, according to a report by World Bank. The global financial institution flagged Nigeria’s increasing working-age population as the cause of the crisis as well as a deficiency of employment opportunities in the West-African country. The crisis has been worsened in recent times by imapct of the COVID-19 pandemic. Wales manager Ryan Giggs has denied assaulting his ex-girlfriend and her sister at his home last November. On Friday, Manchester Crown Court heard claims that Mr Giggs used a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour against Ms Greville. It included claims he kicked her naked out of a hotel room.
