Kenyan-born lawyer Lucy Gichuhi has been sworn in as Australia’s first black African member of federal parliament was sworn in on Tuesday in Canberra. Gichuhi filled the South Australian seat in the Senate which was left vacant for over six months after the resignation of Bob Day from the Family First party. Eight persons were feared dead following an attack by suspected herdsmen, on two villages in Logo Local Government Area of Benue state, a Police statement said. The Spokesman of the Police Command in Benue, ASP Moses Yamu, confirmed the attacks in a statement on Monday in Makurdi. Yamu said the attacks on Akaa and Tse-Orlalu villages in Mbamar, Ugondo communities, were perpetrated by suspected herdsmen late on Sunday. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said internet users in the country stood at 90,003,101 in March 2017 indicating a drop in subscribers. The telecommunications industry regulator made the disclosure in its Monthly Internet Subscribers Data for March on Monday in Lagos. The data indicated that Internet users on both Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks dropped from 90,029,182 in February to 90,003,101 in March. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Monday that it was not involved in the negotiation that led to the release of 82 Chibok school girls from armed opposition. Ms Aleksandra Mosimann, Communication Coordinator, ICRC, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
