Pope Francis has backed down and accepted the resignation of a Nigerian bishop who had been rejected for years by the priests of his diocese, setting a precedent that could have repercussions elsewhere. Five Nigerian police officers who were accused of killing Boko Haram’s founder Mohammed Yusuf while in their custody have been reinstated, a police oversight body said on Monday. The officers were charged with committing a terrorist act and unlawfully killing the Islamist group’s spiritual leader during days of unrest in the northeast city of Maiduguri in July 2009. The Lagos Airport Police Command will on Monday arraign a male suspect, identified as Kunle Oni, who allegedly stole N1, 008,000 aboard an Air Peace flight from Abuja to Lagos The spokesperson for the command, DSP Joseph Alabi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos that the suspect, who identified himself in a video, would be arraigned before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court for stealing.
