Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, stated that the suspect committed the crime on Wednesday in Mowe, in the state’s Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. “The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Mowe Divisional Headquarters by one Aminu Tajudeen, who reported that the deceased, Salisu Surakatu, was…
Israel is to ban foreigners from entering the country for 14 days and use surveillance to halt the spread of the new Covid strain, ‘Omicron’ according to a local media report. The ban is expected to come into effect at midnight on Sunday, following full cabinet approval. Israel has so far confirmed one case of the potentially more infectious Omicron strain first detected in South Africa. Many countries have since banned travel to South Africa and its neighbours. South Africa has complained that it is being punished – instead of applauded – for discovering Omicron earlier this month. The World…
Juventus lost at home to Atalanta for a fifth defeat in 14 league matches leaving them in eighth in Serie A. Duvan Zapata’s 28th-minute winner stretched the visitors’ unbeaten run to eight matches as they stayed fourth, four points behind leaders Napoli. The hosts failed to threaten much, with Paulo Dybala’s late free-kick hitting the crossbar. The victory was Atalanta’s first at Juventus since 1989. Chelsea outclass Juventus to top group Massimiliano Allegri’s side have now only scored 18 goals in their 14 league matches, the lowest total in Serie A’s top 10, and the loss follows their 4-0 defeat…
Erling Braut Haaland scored in a winning return for Borussia Dortmund to become the youngest player to reach 50 goals in Bundesliga history. The Norwegian, aged 21 years and 129 days, struck a late volley after coming on as substitute to seal a win at Wolfsburg and send Dortmund top. Wout Weghorst had given Wolfsburg the lead before an Emre Can penalty and Donyell Malen effort turned the game. Haaland’s goal came in his 50th Bundesliga appearance. His goal was his 10th in just seven games of a season interrupted by a hip flexor muscle injury that had sidelined him…
Steven Gerrard secured his second win as Aston Villa manager as his side claimed a 2-1 victory over Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. After wildly celebrating grabbing all three points late on against Brighton a week ago, the former Liverpool captain was again jubilant when Matt Targett put Villa ahead with a low drive through a crowd of bodies from Ashley Young’s corner on 15 minutes. As Palace tried to salvage something in the closing stages of the second half, John McGinn curled a beautiful shot into the top corner from the edge of the box to double…
Diogo Jota scored twice as Liverpool thrashed Southampton to move up to second in the Premier League, one point behind leaders Chelsea. Southampton arrived at Anfield clearly determined to attack the hosts but their bold intent was punished after less than two minutes when Andrew Robertson was allowed to get away down the flank and cross for Jota to poke in. Sensing the opportunity to secure a big win against wide-open opponents, Liverpool kept up the attack, Sadio Mane heading wide before having a goal ruled out for a marginal offside. But a second goal duly arrived just after the…

Arsenal eventually broke Newcastle United down to leave Eddie Howe’s side bottom of the Premier League without a win. Howe, in the Magpies dugout for the first time after missing last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Brentford because of Covid, set up a team to try to contain Arsenal and eke out a point. It appeared as if the strategy might be working until Bukayo Saka slotted home from Nuno Tavares’ through ball in the second half. Saka went off injured and his replacement Gabriel Martinelli scored with his second touch, a wonderful volley from Takehiro Tomiyasu’s clipped pass over the…
