The Akwa Ibom government has attributed the high rate of HIV/AIDS in the state to the influx of visitors. The Nigerian HIV/AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) shows that Akwa Ibom has the highest prevalence rate of HIV in the country.
