Myanmar’s leader Aung San Suu Kyi has defended her country against allegations of genocide at the UN International Court of Justice (ICJ). The Nobel Peace Prize laureate responded to widespread claims that Myanmar (formerly Burma) committed atrocities against Muslim Rohingya. The Senate on Wednesday waded into the issue of unemployment in the country and recommended solutions to the executive arm of government led by President Buhari for adoption and implementation. A new public survey released today by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) shows that corruption remains a serious problem in Nigeria, and affecting majority of Nigerians, despite Nigerian authorities’ oft-repeated commitment to address the problem. According to the survey, “96.2% of the respondents believed corruption remains a serious problem in Nigeria today. There was no significant difference in opinion on this issue across the different geo-political zones surveyed. The Presidency has replied to Punch Newspaper editorial that says the national newspaper would henceforth stop addressing President Muhammadu Buhari by his civil title instead it will revert to his military title. Boko Haram militants have killed at least 275 people this year in Cameroon´s Far North region despite government claims back in January that the Islamic extremist group had waned in the area, Amnesty International said Wednesday. More than 80 percent of those victims between January and November were civilians, the international human rights group said following a two-week mission to the volatile area.
