Spanish giant Atletico Madrid comfortably beat Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise 3-1 in the Champions League.
England international Conor Gallagher was on target for the Spanish side as Diego Simeone’s team defeated Union Saint-Gilloise.
Simeone chose the former Chelsea midfielder as a replacement, and he had an immediate impact just 10 minutes into the second half.
Gallagher pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired past Kjell Scherpen in the Union goal to make it 2-0.
However, before Gallagher’s strike, former Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez scored his second Champions League goal of the season in the 39th minute, putting Atletico Madrid ahead.
With 10 minutes remaining, former Accrington Stanley defender Ross Sykes headed beyond Jan Oblak to cut the Belgian deficit in half.
However, substitute Marcos Llorente secured the three points for the Spaniards with a 96th-minute strike, his third in this year’s campaign.
With their second win in four games, Atletico Madrid has improved to 14th in the rankings, while Union is 26th.
