Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated a student of Nigerian Tulip International College in Yobe State, Nafisa Aminu, for emerging as the world’s best in English at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals.

Atiku, in a statement via his X handle on Tuesday, described Nafisa’s outstanding performance as a shining example of what the Nigerian girl-child can achieve when given access to quality education and a supportive environment.

“Nafisa’s outstanding success serves as a powerful testament to the limitless potential of the Nigerian girl-child when provided with quality education and a supportive environment,” Atiku said.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 presidential election stressed the importance of investing in the education of girls, noting that it goes beyond fairness and equity but is a “strategic necessity for national transformation.”

Atiku also called on Nigerians to unite in removing obstacles that hinder the girl-child from reaching her full potential.

“Let us, as a community, commit to dismantling every barrier that prevents the girl-child from realising her full potential,” he added.

The 17-year-old girl from Yobe State was named the world’s best in English language skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.

The TeenEagle competition is a globally known competition that assesses English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication abilities, attracting children from both English- and non-English-speaking countries.

Nafisa’s victory was verified in a statement by the head of her family, Hassan Salifu, who credited her accomplishment to “dedication, discipline, and the enabling support of the state government.”

Nafisa, who represented Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College, outperformed over 20,000 participants from 69 nations, a historic achievement that has catapulted her into the world academic spotlight and given Nigeria distinction.
