Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar paid a surprise visit to Rauf Aregbesola, the former governor of Osun State, at his private residence on Friday.

A video shared via Atiku’s official X handle showed the politician arriving at Aregbesola’s home, where he was warmly received. The pair were later seen walking into the residence flanked by their supporters.

“Breakfast time at the residence of former Governor of Osun State, Engr Rauf Aregbesola,” Atiku captioned the clip, fuelling speculation about political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

This visit comes months after Aregbesola was expelled by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State for alleged anti-party activities.

Atiku, a key opposition figure, also made a stop in Akure, Ondo State, to attend the coronation ceremony of Clement Adesuyi, newly installed paramount ruler of Ijesaland.

    • Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai form coalition, adopt ADC as political platform

His visit to Aregbesola is seen as part of broader efforts by opposition leaders to forge a united front against the ruling APC. According to insider sources, talks are in the final stages to adopt the African Democratic Party (ADC) as the coalition platform for the 2027 presidential election.

The emerging opposition alliance includes Atiku,  Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, now a chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

With Nigeria’s political landscape heating up, these high-profile meetings are being closely watched for signs of a formidable challenge to the APC’s grip on power.
