Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has completed a move from National Women’s Soccer League side Bay FC to Saudi Women’s League side Al Hilal on a two-year deal.
The 30-year-old, who joined the NWSL in February 2024 following a trophy-laden tenure at Spanish giants FC Barcelona Femeni, passed medicals on Monday night and has already joined her new team, marking a new chapter in her illustrious career.
Oshoala, popularly called ‘Agba baller,’ missed Bay FC’s 2-1 defeat to Angel City on Monday night, with a report from The Athletic revealing that “Bay FC and Al Hilal have reached an agreement on an undisclosed transfer fee, and Oshoala is now in Saudi Arabia ahead of a medical scheduled for tonight (Monday).”
Oshoala made 25 top-flight games in the United States, including 23 starts last season, scoring seven goals and contributing one assist. Overall, she played 38 games and scored eight goals.
Her presence in Bay FC’s setup has declined since last season, with head coach Albertin Montoya blaming her adaptation to the NWSL’s playing style and defensive expectations as reasons for her fewer minutes this season.
He said, “In this league you have to, and that’s something that we’re working with her on.
“So when she gets that and has the confidence in front of the goal to score goals and helps us defensively, and that’s why with Caroline Conti, she gives us something else defensively.”
Her relocation to the Gulf State presents her with an opportunity to relaunch her career. The six-time Women’s Africa Player of the Year has played for premier clubs in Europe, Asia, and the United States.
She was also a member of the Super Falcons squad that won a record-extending tenth WAFCON title in Morocco in July.
