Nigerian music heavyweights Asake and Rema have earned spots on former U.S. President Barack Obama’s 2024 playlist, a globally anticipated annual tradition.

This year’s selection of Obama’s playlist reflects a rich blend of global sounds, featuring both established icons and rising stars across diverse genres.

Among the highlights are “Active” by Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake in collaboration with Travis Scott, and “Yayo” by Rema, further solidifying Nigeria’s growing influence on the global music scene. Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” also made the cut, continuing her reign as a cultural powerhouse.

The playlist balances energetic tracks like Kendrick Lamar’s “Squabble Up” and Rae Khalil’s introspective “Is It Worth It,” while introducing fans to lesser-known gems like Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” and The Red Clay Strays’ country hit “Ramblin’.”

International flavors are represented with Karol G’s Spanish ballad “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” and Floyy Menor’s reggaeton anthem “Gata Only,” while collaborations like Waxahatchee & MJ Lenderman’s “Right Back To It” and Ezra Collective & Yazmin Lacey’s jazzy “God Gave Me Feet for Dancing” add depth to the lineup.

Obama’s tradition of sharing his favorite music has become a cultural moment, sparking global conversations about the featured artists and their work.

For Asake, this recognition comes on the heels of his 2024 album Lungu Boy, which has been a commercial and critical success. The album, blending soulful melodies with vibrant Afrobeats rhythms, has topped charts worldwide, further cementing Asake’s status as a global music sensation.
