    Army foils kidnap attempt, rescues six along Taraba highway

    Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have successfully thwarted a kidnap attempt and rescued six travellers on the Wukari-Kente road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.

    The operation was launched on April 27, 2025, after the Executive Chairman of Wukari LGA alerted security forces to an attack on commuters in the area. Soldiers from the Forward Operating Base in Wukari responded swiftly.

    In a statement issued Tuesday, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, Captain Olubodunde Oni, confirmed the intervention.

    “Responding swiftly, the troops launched a prompt rescue operation to the area and rescued the victims unhurt,” the statement read.

    Upon arrival at the scene, troops discovered a white Toyota Hilux vehicle with a flat tyre abandoned by the roadside.

    “Shortly after, six individuals emerged from the nearby bush, unharmed, and identified themselves as the occupants of the vehicle,” the army said.

    According to the victims, they were travelling from Yola to Lafia when gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers or armed robbers, ambushed them from behind. They fled into the bush for safety, leaving their vehicle behind.

    The soldiers secured the area, assisted in fixing the damaged tyre, and escorted the travellers until they could safely continue their journey.

    Commending the troops, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, praised their swift action and professionalism. He reaffirmed the army‘s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Taraba State.

    “We remain resolute in our mission to ensure peace and security across Taraba State and its environs,” he assured.

    He also encouraged residents to collaborate with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence.
