A farmer has been killed, and members of his family, with many others severely injured in a new attack by armed herdsmen on Tse Akor Gbatse village, Nyiev Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area (LGA), in Benue state.

Several people were also reported missing and unaccounted for following the attack.

It was reported that the armed herdsmen invaded the community located a few kilometers from Daudu town on Saturday afternoon, a few days after the locals raised the alert about the approaching invasion.

According to a source in the area who spoke on the condition of anonymity, they learned that the armed herdsmen had tented near Rukubi in Nasarawa State’s Doma LGA, from which they planned to attack several border communities in the Guma LGA.

He said, “They had alleged that their three children went missing weeks ago in one of the communities.”

“And on Saturday afternoon they launched the attack. They killed Tachia Akor and his wife, and one Mrs. Tsetim and some other persons sustained serious injuries.

“Some of the injured are receiving medical attention at Adi Hospital in Daudu town, while many other farmers are missing.”

He noted that current information showed that armed herders were still roaming many deserted settlements in Guma LGA, and he urged security authorities to take action to rid the areas of marauders.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Udeme Edet verified the development, saying, “Yes, we were informed; our men are already on it. Immediately after we got the information, men were deployed, and they are already investigating the matter. Normalcy has also returned to the area.”
