National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Oye has urged all party members to engage in intense fasting and prayers in response to the deaths of two Anambra State House of Assembly members in the span of three months.

Nnamdi Okafor, the Majority Leader of the House, passed away in a hotel in Sandton City, Johannesburg, while attending a legislative retreat there.

Okafor, a lawmaker serving his second term, was elected to the State Assembly in 2015 on the APGA ticket.

Also in May, Okechukwu Okoye, a lawmaker for the Aguata 2 Constituency in the House of Assembly, was also kidnapped and beheaded by gunmen.

Six days after being kidnapped along Aguluigbo Road in the Anaocha Local Government Area of the state, Okoye and his assistant Cyril Chiegboka were murdered on May 21.

Their deaths have reduced the number of the lawmakers to 28

In response to this event, APGA national chairman Oye advised all members to begin a three-day fast and prayer in preparation for the 2023 elections in order to bring about peace, progress, and development in the House and inside the party.

“The times in which we have found ourselves are perilous and call for constant prayer, self-examination and penance”, the statement quoted Oye as saying.

He called on the leadership of the Anambra State House of Assembly to join in the prayer and fasting as “I see God doing something new in the House soon”.

Oye expressed his condolences on the passing of the Majority Leader to the Speaker of the House, Uche Okafor, the members of the House, and the governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo.

He likewise prayed to God for the deceased’s soul to receive eternal rest in heaven.
