The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its handling of the recent shooting incident in Edo State, describing the opposition party as “its own nemesis” and accusing it of political recklessness.

Felix Morka, APC National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement that the ADC was crippling itself through what he described as immature leadership and unfounded allegations. The ruling party faulted the ADC’s claim that the APC was responsible for the reported shooting involving its members in Edo State, insisting that such accusations were made prematurely and without the benefit of any law enforcement investigation.

According to the APC, by reaching what it termed a “baseless conclusion,” the ADC had positioned itself as “accuser, investigator, prosecutor and judge” in the matter, thereby disregarding due process and constitutional norms.

The ruling party also condemned the ADC’s reference to alleged “acts of terrorism” by the ruling party, describing the characterisation as reckless and insensitive, particularly in light of ongoing national security operations and the sacrifices of security personnel combating terrorism across the country.

While rejecting any link to the incident, the APC emphasised that violence in the political space is unacceptable and must be condemned by all stakeholders. The party called on the police and other law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough and expeditious investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The ruling party further urged investigators to scrutinise internal disputes within the ADC, alleging that factional leadership struggles and reported clashes among its members could provide useful leads.

Denying any involvement, the APC maintained that it is focused on consolidating what it described as recent electoral victories in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rivers State, and Kano State, as well as advancing the administration’s governance agenda under President Bola Tinubu.
