The Nigerian government has written world’s football governing body FIFA reiterating that Amaju Pinnick remains the President of Nigeria’s Football Federation.

Following controversy over his ouster by the Sports Minister Solomon Dalung, the Presidency wrote FIFA to avoid a ban on Nigeria’s football.

Nigeria was barely an hour away from FIFA sanctions when the Presidency stepped in to quell the tension.

Clearing the air via Twitter, Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President to Vice President on Media and Publicity, explained that a letter has been written to FIFA.

“The Federal Government has already conveyed to FIFA its firm position recognizing Amaju Pinnick-led NFF as the current and only NFF Exco.

“Government will also continue to work with all relevant stakeholders involved to resolve dispute in a timely manner,” he noted.

Adding that, “FG is upholding NFF treaty obligations to FIFA.”

There’s been a running battle over who heads Nigeria’s football after Chris Giwa had approached the court to overturn Pinnick’s election as president.

Last week, the Giwa-led faction of the NFF in Abuja said it had terminated the appointment of Mohammed Sanusi, the NFF General Seo[p;;cretary.

Giwa was also reported to have sacked other members of the executive.
