The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to install Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, as the “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” on Saturday.

On the same occasion, the king would appoint Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari of Zamfara West as the “Obaloyin of Yorubaland.”

The duo’s chieftaincy installation was revealed in a flier received by Chronicle NG on Wednesday via social media platforms.

In the flier, the monarch and his wife, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, invited the people to the installation and urged them to save the date, which is slated for Saturday, December 21, 2025.

“Okanlomo of Yorubaland” is a distinguished Yoruba title that translates as “the one dear to the hearts of all Yoruba people” or “beloved child,” indicating great fondness and significance to the tribe.

Bode Durojaiye, the Alaafin’s media aide, confirmed the chieftaincy installation to our correspondent over the phone on Wednesday, saying it is factual and that the event will take place as planned.

He confirmed that the press statement for the occasion would be made available to journalists soon.

“Yes, it is true. The Alaafin of Oyo wants to install Seyi Tinubu as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland and Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari as the Obaloyin of Yorubaland.

“The press statement on the said event will be made available today or anytime soon,” he said.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, bestowed the title of “Okanlomo of Oodua” on Dotun Sanusi, an Ibadan-born philanthropist and Bada Olubadan designate, sparking a supremacy controversy between the two respected monarchs of Yorubaland, but it was quelled by the region’s stakeholders.

Recently, the Ooni also conferred the prestigious chieftain title on the First Lady, Remi Tinubu.

The ceremony brought together traditional rulers and dignitaries from around Yorubaland, including the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III; the Sultan of Sokoto; and the Soun of Ogbomoso, as well as cultural luminaries and other significant figures.

The title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua has historical significance; it was previously held by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, wife of the famed statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

It is an acknowledgement of leadership, influence, and accomplishments in society, particularly within the Yoruba cultural context.
