Senate President Godswill Akpabio says the persistent bloodshed in Plateau State leaves him in tears, stressing that no community should endure such relentless loss.

Speaking at the APC’s mega rally at the Jos Polo Field, where the party welcomed a wave of high-profile defectors, Akpabio said the killings in Plateau have become a personal burden. The event drew top northern APC leaders, including National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda, Senator Simon Lalong, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, and the governors of Nasarawa and Benue.

Akpabio lamented the devastation caused by years of attacks, insisting Plateau urgently needs lasting peace.

“Too many lives have been lost. Too many homes destroyed. Plateau deserves peace,” he said in a statement issued by his media aide, Anietie Ekong. “I cry whenever anybody is killed in the Plateau. President Tinubu will deliver peace to this state.”

He praised the defectors for aligning with the ruling party, declaring that the APC and President Bola Tinubu would win Plateau decisively in 2027.

According to him, the new entrants include “political caterpillars” such as former Plateau North senator Istifanus Gyang, former PDP campaign DG Latep Dabang, Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate Patrick Dakum, and former NNPP candidate Alfred Dabwam.

Akpabio also commended President Tinubu for backing Nentawe Yilwatda as APC national chairman, claiming the party had already “delivered Plateau before the elections”.

Plateau remains one of the most troubled states in the north-central region, where recurring violence has displaced thousands and claimed countless lives.
