Senate President Godswill Akpabio called for an emergency closed session during plenary on Tuesday after Senate Chief Whip Senator Ali Ndume angrily staged a walkout.

Ndume criticized Akpabio’s handling of Senate affairs, citing Senate Rule Book Order 54.

He said, “Mr. President, there are some things we do in this chamber that are against the rules. Sir, nobody is too big to learn.”

Akpabio ordered Ndume out of order before he could even finish his speech.

This did not sit well with Ndume who stormed out of the chamber and went straight to his office.

Just as he was getting settled, he received a call from a colleague asking him to return for an interview.

It will be recalled that Ndume, the senator representing Borno South Senatorial District, has chastised Akpabio for authorizing the passage of some executive bills without consulting other members of the Senate.

In a video released on Thursday, Ndume chastised  Akpabio for passing certain legislation without formal reading or member input.

In the same vein, Senator Ogoshi Onawo of the Peoples Democratic Party, who represents Nasarawa State, also chastised Akpabo for his desire to rush through several laws.

He stated, “Very sensitive bills are brought and are expected to be passed with the speed of light, which is not good for the country.

“Every senator here is supposed to be adequately informed; he does his research and makes a positive contribution, but in a situation where even money bills are brought and expected to be passed within two hours, it wouldn’t be better for the country” he said.
