The trial for the suspended Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, has been postponed after the defense team asked for a delay.
Idris’ attorney, Gordy Uche, informed the court during the resumed trial on Wednesday before Justice Adeniyi Ajayi of the FCT High Court that he needed more time to speak with his client after the meeting the latter had the day before with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the latter’s invitation.
The defense team charged the EFCC with contempt, claiming that the agency lacked the authority to carry on with its inquiries because the case was already in court. Rotimi Jacobs, the commission’s attorney, disagreed with Uche’s assertions.

He claimed that the person who approached the commission for settlement was the federation’s suspended accountant general.
Justice Ajayi adjourned the trial to October 4 and 5, 2022, for further proceedings after hearing from all parties involved.
In response to 14 counts of theft and criminal breach of trust totaling N109.5 billion, the suspended accountant general and his co-defendants entered a not guilty plea.
