Mr Akinwumi Adesina, President of the Africa Development Bank (AfDB) has thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his “wise counsel” and support during his investigation.

He was cleared of all allegations against him by an independent review panel led by Mary Robinson, a former President of Ireland.

The investigative review panel noted that, “The panel concurs with the committee in its findings in respect of all the allegations against the President and finds that they were properly considered and dismissed by the Committee,” a report on Monday said.

Writing from his official Twitter account, Adesina thanked President Buhari who had earlier congratulated him after he was cleared.

“Thank you very much Your Excellency President Buhari for your kind words, good wishes, counsel and extraordinary support.

“I am very humbled and grateful. I am totally dedicated to Africa’s accelerated development, and to this I recommit myself,” he wrote on Twitter.

After he was cleared, President Buhari tweeted that Nigeria fully supports Adesina for a second-term in office.

“The clearing of Akinwumi Adesina, of all the allegations against him, further validates his competence and integrity to lead the African Development Bank. Nigeria rejoices with him on this development. Congratulations!

“This conclusion of the review of the Report of the Ethics Committee should finally draw a curtain on the allegations that have created distractions for the institution in recent months.

“I urge Dr. Adesina to remain steadfast, dedicated and resolute in pursuing his noble goals for the Bank, especially with the now-expected second term in office. Nigeria fully supports him, and will continue to, as he renews his leadership mandate.”
