President Bola Tinubu had charged the Nigerian Armed Forces to remain steadfast in discipline, loyalty, and unity, describing them as the enduring emblem of Nigeria’s shared strength and guardians of the country’s democracy.
At the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) Gala and Award Night, which took place in Abuja on Tuesday, Tinubu led the charge.
Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, represented him.
In order to ensure enduring peace and stability throughout the nation, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s commitment to aiding the armed forces.
Assuring soldiers of better living circumstances, better training, and better equipment, he claimed that military welfare and national security were inextricably linked.
Tinubu emphasized that his administration would keep providing tangible assistance in proportion to their sacrifices.
The president gave heartfelt homage to the departed heroes who gave their lives defending the country, pointing out that their names were inscribed in Nigerians’ hearts as well as on monuments.
He went on to say that remembering was more than just a ceremonial practice; it was an ongoing national obligation.
Tinubu praised the military forces for their bravery and tenacity on the front lines, stating that their recent operational achievements have contributed to the restoration of safety and confidence in numerous communities that had previously been impacted by insecurity.
Additionally, he recognized the sacrifices made by military families, characterizing their assistance as an essential cornerstone of the country’s defense.
In order to allow Nigerians to honor service members and veterans, the president announced the approval of two nationwide engagement initiatives: the Thank-A-Soldier Electronic Wall and the My Nigerian Hero Campaign.
He also reassured Nigerians that, despite the Renewed Hope Agenda’s progress, the government would not give up until every citizen could live and work in safety and dignity.
The event featured various categories of awards to some deserving serving and retired military officers, including the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, and retired Brig. – Gen. Sani Usman, among many others.
