President Bola Tinubu will attend the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final in Ivory Coast. Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has announced.
Nigeria and hosts Ivory Coast will face off in the competition’s final on Sunday at the Alassanne Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan.
Motsepe made the announcement during a press conference on Friday at the Palace de la Culture in Trechville, Abidjan, after being asked when Africa may host the World Cup again.
He said, “Nigeria must put in a bid. The Nigerian president (Bola Tinubu) is coming to watch the final on Sunday. I will have a conversation with him about it.”
Vice President Kashim Shettima was present as the Eagles overcame South Africa 4-2 on penalties in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Motsepe has declined to announce the dates for the next AFCON, which is set to take place in 2025.
“The focus for all of us now is Ivory Coast,” Motsepe said.
The Super Eagles made it to the AFCON 2023 finals by beating the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in an intense penalty shootout.
Cote d’Ivoire edged through DR Congo in a 1-0 victory to book a spot in the final.
The final will be played on Sunday at 8 p.m. Nigerian time, with Tinubu in attendance.
