An English teacher with the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission, Oluyemisi Adedokun-Oladejo, has emerged the first Nigerian and African to win the TOEFL English Practitioner’s prize.
In a post on her LinkedIn page, Adedokun-Oladejo explained that she competed with thousands of English teachers across the world and emerged first.
“I am thrilled to announce that I competed against thousands of English teachers across the globe and won the the 2022 TOEFL English Practitioner’s Prize; it’s the first time an African would win said prize.
“The low income community secondary school where I teach, a co-beneficiary, also gets resources for Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL).
“I have no words to convey my joy,” she wrote on her page.
The graduate of University of Ibadan who was elated at the record breaking feat is on a mission to help non-native speakers perfect their English language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
