Ahmadu Fintiri, the Governor of Adamawa State, has announced a 24-hour curfew in Lamurde Local Government Area in response to a recent outbreak of communal violence.
Hussaini Hammangabdo, the Deputy Governor’s Press Secretary, issued a statement on Monday instructing security services to quickly deploy to impacted regions to restore peace and order.
According to the statement, Fintiri asked security services to move to regions threatened by the increased communal clashes in order to restore peace and order as soon as possible.
The statement reads, “The Adamawa State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area with immediate effect following a renewed communal clash that broke out on Sunday evening.
“Signed by Hussaini Hammangabdo, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, security agencies have been directed to move into the area and restore peace and order without delay.”
The administration has encouraged people of Lamurde to remain calm and completely cooperate with security personnel while attempts are underway to avert further escalation.
