The death of 30-year-old Abigail Adebayo, a single mother of three, who committed suicide over a cancelled wedding, has been confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command.
According to information obtained by Chronicle NG, the incident took place in the Ijebu region of Ogun State on February 12, 2026.
The dead had been dating her fiancé since September 2025, according to an online publication called Newstrends, and the two were preparing to formally tie the knot.
The story claims that after the man presented Abigail to his family, problems started.
When the family learned that she had three children from a prior relationship, they supposedly objected to the marriage.
She apparently experienced severe emotional distress as a result of the fiancé’s subsequent reinforcement of the displeasure.
The report stated, “About two weeks ago, he introduced her to his relatives, but his mother reportedly disapproved upon learning that Abigail had three children from a previous relationship. The objection was later reinforced by the man, leading to heightened emotional distress for Abigail.
“Family sources say Abigail was later found motionless in her room and rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, where she was confirmed dead on arrival. The circumstances reportedly indicate that she ingested a toxic substance.”
In a phone interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Babaseyi Oluseyi confirmed the incident and stated that it was believed the woman died after consuming an insecticide.
“On Thursday, 12/02/2026, it was reported that one Abigail Adebayo, ‘F,’ 30 years, allegedly ingested Sniper insecticide following a family disagreement over their intended marriage,” she said.
“She was immediately rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”
Oluseyi also stated that detectives had visited both the scene and the hospital as part of ongoing investigations.
“Photographs were taken, and no visible marks of violence were found on the body. Investigation is ongoing,” he stated.
