    Gunmen kidnap Catholic priest after morning mass in Abia

    A Catholic priest of St Theresa Catholic Church, Umuahia, Rev Fr Godfrey Mark Chimezie has been reportedly abducted by a group of armed men in Abia state.

    It was gathered that the priest was kidnapped along Enyiukwu Road in Ohokobe Afaraukwu community, Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state.

    The Enugu-born clergyman was waylaid by the assailants shortly after leading a morning mass at St Gabriel, Okpururie on Wednesday morning.

    Reports say that he was dragged out of his Toyota Corolla into their SUV after which the kidnappers sped away to an unknown location.

    The Abia state police command was yet to confirm the incident at the time of this report.

    • Scores abducted as bandits attack Catholic seminary

    The attack comes barely 48 hours after a group of armed bandits have reportedly attacked a Catholic seminary in Jama’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

    Chronicle NG reported that the seminary, St. Albert the Great Institute of Philosophy, which belongs to the Catholic church was attacked on Monday night by the assailants who whisked away a large number of students from the premises.

    According to reports, the bandits stormed the theological school which is located at Fayit community, Kagoma Chiefdom in Kaduna.

    During the attack, they shot sporadically to scare away residents.
