Armed bandits have abducted a former National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) director, Alhaji Ahmed Abdulkadir, and his 15-year-old daughter, Laila in Katsina state.

The latest attack comes barely 24 hours after the abduction of the wife and children of a Katsina lawmaker.

Reports say that the assailants invaded the residence of the retired NBC director in Bakori Housing Units, around 9pm on Monday, kidnapping him and his teenage daughter.

It was also gathered that three other residents were abducted by the AK-47-wielding bandits.

Others abducted were Alhaji Bello Aminu Bakori, Shamsuddeen Aminu and one Habibu Rabe of Local Education Authority, Bakori.

According to reports, less than an hour after the abduction, a vigilante group in the area mobilised and went after the assailants.

They reportedly caught up with the bandits  in Danja Local Government Area and after an exchange of gunfire, three victims regained freedom.

However, Abdulkadir and his daughter were still in captivity.

    • Bandits are Fulani herdsmen – Katsina Gov, Masari

Banditry has continued to plagued the northwestern region of Nigeri, with governors and other top-government officials pointing fingers to the Fulani herdsmen whose primary occupation is cattle rearing.

Chronicle NG reported the revelation of Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Kastina, who disclosed that the majority of bandits in the state are Fulani herdsmen.

Armed bandits have raided and destroyed several homes and villages, leaving many hoomeless and forcing hundreds to flee to nearby communities for shelter.

From Abuja to Zamfara, Niger and many other places, gunmen have been breaking into homes, abducting their victims for millions.

Lawmakers, traditional rulers, first class monarchs, top-government officials and their families have been targeted by these ruthless assailants.

The security architecture of the country is also questioned as the primary training instituition of the Armed Forces (the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA) was attacked where four officers were killed and two kidnapped.

The abducted officer was still in captivity at the time of filing this report.

It is also worrisome that the epicenter of insecurity is the home-state of President Muhammadu Buhari.
