Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday chaired the National Single Window Trading Platform committee as Nigeria seeks new ways to make export and import easier.
In a tweet by Laolu Akande, the spokesperson to the Vice President, he said the meeting was conveyed to review the plan for a Single Window platform for all importing and exporting processes in Nigeria.
‘VP Osinbajo just finished presiding over a meeting of National Single Window Trading Platform Committee, with some ministers including Finance; Industry and MDAs heads, Customs and NPA to review plan to have a Single Window platform for all importing and exporting processes in Nigeria.
According to the Nigeria Trade website, the Nigeria Single Window Trade Portal is a cross-government platform that opens a new era for trade facilitation by offering a single portal for trade actors, both Nigerian and international, to access a full range of resources and standardized services from different Nigerian government agencies.
The NSW Trade portal facilitates trade by offering a platform for users to: “Consult trade information online. For example, tariff search, arrived vessels, regulatory guidelines
Submit trade documents and track their trade transaction status online.
“Pay online through e-payment facilities using credit card (this function to be deployed in the next phase)
“Access help-desk, trouble tickets, and other support services online (for registered users)
Quickly reference important information on different government agencies involved in trade matters, as well as link to their websites through a convenient hub.”
Prof Osinbajo has led the Buhari administration’s bid to improve the Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria, under which, National Single Window Trading Platform falls.
Nigeria has climbed steadily on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business report over the last three years.
According to the 2020 Report, Nigeria ranks 131 out of 190 countries on the World Bank Doing Business Index, moving up 15 places from 146th position in the 2019 Report.
