    Nigeria announces 260 new coronavirus cases

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 260 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Sunday.

    The 260 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed cases to 12486.

    The NCDC also announced the discharge of 133 patients from isolation centers across the country with 12 new deaths reported.

    Lagos state, the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria topped the number of confirmed cases with 38 new cases taking the total number of confirmed cases in Lagos alone to 5767.

    But it was Abia that recorded the day’s highest cases with 67 on Sunday taking the total in the Southest state to 83.

    Federal Capital Territory reported 40 new cases while Ogun recorded 19 cases and Gombe state reported 16.

    Other states are Edo-14, Imo-9, Kwara-8, Katsina-8, Nasarawa-8, Borno-8, Kaduna-6, Bauchi-5, Ekiti-4, Niger-2, Ondo-2, Plateau-2, Kano-2 and Sokoto-2.

    NCDC reports that there are 12486 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria with 3959 discharged and 354 deaths.

    The NCDC noted that on Saturday there were some errors in its reporting. “Yesterday, we erroneously reported 7 new cases in Jigawa. Following further review, we can confirm that these were repeat tests for previously confirmed cases.

    “We apologise for this error and remain committed to ensuring transparent and accurate reporting of test results,” the NCDC said.
