COVID-19: Nigerians blast Funke Akindele for throwing house party

Nigerians have taken to social media to call for the arrest of Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele popularly known as Jennifer after she threw a house party that defied the lockdown, social distancing and self isolation.

In a video circulating on social media, Akindele had her full of guests including other celebrities at a time the government directed a 14-day lockdown to help the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control trace contacts and contain COVID-19.

Some Nigerians found Akindele’s defiance of government order as irresponsible and have called for her arrest by the authorities.

In attendance at the party is controversial singer, Naira Marley and Nollywood actress, Eniola Badmus among others.

Although Chronicle NG is yet to confirm the date of the party, guests were not wearing face masks or observing any precautionary measures spelt out by government.

The video of the house party was posted by her husband, JJC Skillz who used his mobile phone to record the event with his wife also in the video.

Here’s how Mazi Olisaemeka described Akindele’s action. “What Funke Akindele and the husband did was highly irresponsible, I expected both of them to know better. How can you organize a house party with so many people in attendance at this time when social distancing is very important. It’s disappointing really,” she tweeted.

Danny Walker also shared a similar position. “Even if Funke Akindele and her husband don’t care about themselves, they should do it for their twins. Their survival depends on their parents using their heads. I don’t even touch people in my house anymore, talk more of strangers. Highly disappointing,” he added.

Tosin Olugbenga said her actions was even more worrisome because she is an ambassador of NCDC. “It is an high level of irresponsibility for Funke Akindele and her husband to organize a house party with so many people in attendance at this time when social distancing is very important. To imagine that @NCDCgov  used Funke Akindele an an Ambassador.

What Funke Akindele did has always been my concern with Nigerian celebrities ambassadorship deals. As an ambassador, you should live, preach & breath the essence of that brand.

Same way some of them get signed as Infinix/Tecno ambassadors but end up flaunting iphones outside.

You speak against social gatherings, not coming in contact with people..Yet, as an ambassador of NCDC, you Still went ahead to organize a house party?

WTF! That won’t be his last birthday, common!

Funke Akindele is a public figure and a role model. Hence, she really messed up!

    — Unwanted Friend???????? (@holardamolar) April 5, 2020

Isn’t same Funke Akindele that did advert for Dettol and NCDC concerning this Coronavirus pandemic?
How irresponsible can she and her husband be…. I think sense is far away from those we call our celebrities. ????‍♂️????‍♂️

    — Tosin????????????????‍♂️ (@Ohloowatoscene) April 5, 2020

“Funke Akindele is a NCDC ambassador and she threw a party”

YES, Don’t think of throwing a party too.
Let the stupidity end on her side,Be wise.

    — Beardless Smallie???????? (@SMiTHiE___) April 5, 2020

Woke up to the video of Funke Akindele’s house party and all I can say is we don’t value life in this country.

Govt is doing everything possible to curb this but as a celebrity and NCDC ambassador, you go on to put people’s life at risk?

    Arrest everyone fgs!

    — M A Y O R (@mayor_b9) April 5, 2020

Funke Akindele hosted a London returnee (Eniola Badmus) in her home on the 24th of March, who didn’t observe the 14 days self quarantine (on returning).

Funke held a house party, disregarding govt’s social distancing directives & endangering public safety.

    THIS IS TERRORISM!
