President Muhammadu Buhari has sympathised with victims of the Lagos explosion that left 15 dead and many injured on Sunday morning.
Reacting to the incident via Twitter, the President confirmed that the cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained. He assured Lagos residents of government’s preparedness to restore calm and peace.
“I received with sadness the news of the explosion in Lagos, which caused loss of lives and property.
“While the NNPC makes efforts to determine the cause of the incident, I send my deepest sympathies to the victims, their families, and the Government and people of Lagos State,” he wrote on his Twitter page.
According to National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at least 15 people and over 50 buildings destroyed after a fire broke out in Abule Ado, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos.
NEMA zonal coordinator, Ibrahim Farinloye, also confirmed that many people were injured and taken to hospital.
Farinloye said some of the buildings collapsed while many roof-tops were blown up. He said the cause of the explosion was not known.
“We cannot actually say immediately what caused it. There was fire on the pipeline,” Farinloye said.
“The explosion destroyed over 50 residential houses.”
Mr Farinloye said the cause of the explosion could not be ascertained at the time of this report.
