A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Ade Omole, says the newly constituted Economic Advisory Council (EAC) will bring about the desired boost to the country’s economy.

Omole, who is the leader of the United Kingdom chapter of the APC, said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to him, the EAC will further boost the confidence of foreign investors in the country’s economy, especially because of the pedigree of its members.

He assured that with the council, an improved Nigerian economy was assured within the coming years.

“This is a serious government, engaging serious people to do serious work for a serious country. The new economic team is another laudable step by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

“The appointees are experienced economists that will surely help the government in the upward trajectory to the `Next Level’,” Omole said.

He expressed optimism that the team would help take 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years as promised by the Federal Government by laying a solid economic foundation and drastically reducing unemployment.

Omole wished the team the best of luck in their duties.

The advisory council which has Prof. Doyin Salami as Chairman and Dr Mohammed Sagagi as Vice Chairman would replace the current Economic Management Team (EMT) headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The council would report directly to Buhari and advise him on economic policy matters, including fiscal analysis and economic growth.

It is also expected to advise the president on a range of internal and global economic issues while working with relevant cabinet members and heads of monetary and fiscal agencies.

The EAC would have monthly technical sessions as well as scheduled quarterly meetings with the president and its chairman could request for unscheduled meetings if the need arises.

It has Dr. Mohammed Salisu, Senior Special Assistant to the President, Development Policy as Secretary, Prof. Ode Ojowu, Dr. Shehu Yahaya, Iyabo Masha, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and Bismark Rewane as members.
