Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has continued his on-site assessment of Government Enterprise and Empowerment Program’s, TraderMoni in the South Eastern states of Enugu and Anambra.

It is Prof. Osinbajo’s first on-site TraderMoni assessment since the conclusion of the general elections in March and he was received to a breathtaking reception at Enugu, capital of Enugu state.

Governor Lawrence Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and other senior state officials received the Vice President at the airport. It was a warm welcome for Prof. Osinbajo as local music and dancers showed their appreciation towards the Federal Government scheme.

The Vice President then proceeded to Eke-Awka market in Anambra state where he interacted with petty traders who have received the initial N10,000 interest free loan from the Bank of Indstry.

He then made a historic visit to the home Mrs Esther Chika, the best Homegrown School Feeding cook in Anambra. He was also received by her husband and daughter in Awka.

The Family Chat with Mrs Chika, a mother of four as well as a grand mother, from Amawbia town was emotional for the VP.

Mrs Chika had previously lost her son, who was the bread winner of the family in December 2016. Her husband who was also helping had had an accident and broke his leg and has not been working for over a year, leaving the woman to carter for the whole family alone with her little trade of Soya Milk and Zobo drink.

Home grown School Feeding Program came to her rescue in January 2017 and since then, things have really changed for the family. They can comfortably afford three square meals, take care of the family’s basic needs and she is now operating a small food vendor business amongst other things.

After the meeting the Chika family, the Vice President explained the rationale behind the free interest loans and the impact it has on Nigeria.

“Providing credit to small business owners is one of the focus of our Social Iinvestment Programmes,” the VP said on Twitter.

“TraderMoni is a distinct loan product that seeks to boost the informal sector by enumerating and empowering traders with loans.

“We are in Eke-Awka market, Anambra State to monitor the progress,” he said on Friday. The Vice President is expected to return to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital after the one-day working visit.
