    Civil Defense boss vows to take punitive action against official who killed colleague

    The Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana, has expressed regrets over the report of an official of the corps who killed a colleague and injured another.

    He has assured the public that adequate punitive action shall be taken against the officer involved on the act in order to avert a reoccurrence of such incident and to serve as a deterrent to other personnel.

    Innocent Osemi, an official of the corps was said to have on Monday night killed his colleague, identified as Senior Inspector Mamman Wuyah and injured another at the Lagos Deepshore, Offshore Logistics (LADOL) in Apapa, Lagos.

    The officials were said to have been deployed to the place to protect the infrastructure at the LADOL.

    A statement signed by the Civil Defense Public Relation Officer (CDPRO), DCC Emmanuel Okeh, said that Gana reacted to development in a briefing of the Management team of the Corps, at the Headquarters, Abuja.

    According to Gana, “the ugly incident occurred as a result of an accidental discharge by a personnel of corps which led to some casualties involving another personnel of the corps and Kurean who is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.”

    Gana said he received the information with a heavy heart, and in view of that he commiserated with the family of the deceased and the injured.

    NSCDC boss said he expressed rude shock that such incident should happen despite various warning by management against such “act of negligence and carelessness.”

    “Adequate punitive action shall be taken against the officer involved in this act in order to avert a reoccurrence of such incident and to serve as a deterrent to other personnel,” Gana said, stressing that investigation into the remote causes of the incident is on-going as committee have been set up to critically look into the matter.”

    He added that the officer involved has already been stripped of his arms and currently under detention pending the outcome of the report of the committee and justice ensured accordingly.”
