    US embassy in Abuja has reopened for both visas and American Citizen Services
    US embassy in Abuja has reopened for both visas and American Citizen Services

    The US embassy has resumed operations at its Abuja Consular office on Friday, August 24, 2018.

    The embassy had announced a temporary closure of its Abuja office last week for “reasons beyond [its] control”.

    But in a statement on its official website on Friday the announced the commencement of activities.

    The statement titled “Message for US Citizens: The Re-opening of the US Embassy Abuja’s Consular Section” noted that full consular visa and American citizen services resumed today.

    “The US Embassy in Abuja’s consular section will reopen on August 24 for full services for both visas and American Citizen Services (ACS).” 

    “Please note that consular functions at the US Consulate Lagos were never affected and will continue as usual.”

    It also urged visa applicants whose appointments were cancelled during the period of temporary closure to expect to be contacted for rescheduling.

    “Visa and ACS applicants with scheduled appointments for August 24 should come to the Embassy, as usual. Visa and ACS applicants with cancelled appointments between August 13 and August 23 will be contacted by the Embassy for rescheduling,” it said.

    “Visa and ACS applicants who were requested by an officer to appear again for follow-up questions on existing applications should contact our office to arrange a new date.”
