Over 880,000 registered voters will head to the polls today in Gambia to decide who will lead the tiny West African nation in the next five years. Gambia, with about 1.9million population has been under a sit-leader since 1994.

President Yahya Jammeh, 51 years, who has been ruling the country since 22years ago stated his assurance for regaining the presidential seat. He stated that today’s election is fraud-proof and thus, protest will not be allowed in the state.

“I am the best president that Gambians will ever get, I will rule for billion years. My presidency and power are in the hands of Allah and only Allah can take it from me.” He said

He further stressed that “Our election system is fraud-proof, rig-proof, you cannot rig our elections. There is no reason that anybody should demonstrate.”

Jammeh will be contesting with Adama Barrow, a former businessman and United Democratic Party (UDP) leader, who emerged as the candidate for an alliance of eight opposition parties.

Reports stated that European Union (EU) and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) observers have been rejected from attending the election. However, African Union observers are on ground to monitor the election.
