Fabio Silva’s late equalizer earned Borussia Dortmund a point in an exciting Bundesliga match at Bayern Munich.
England captain Harry Kane, who midweek became the first English player in 25 years to win the Ballon d’Or, spearheaded Bayern’s attack but missed a penalty and could not find the net.
Fellow Englishman Jobe Bellingham, Dortmund’s player and brother of Real Madrid’s Jude, believed he had landed the first blow when he turned the ball beyond Jonas Urbig.
His goal, however, was disallowed due to a foul by Carney Chukwuemeka on the Bayern goalkeeper.
A few minutes later, Bayern’s Konrad Laimer broke the deadlock in Der Klassiker, charging up the field and converting a rebound after his first attempt had been saved.
Early in the second half, Kane came close to doubling the lead from the spot, but his penalty struck the crossbar.
That opened the door for Dortmund to fight their way back into the match, and Serhou Guirassy levelled with a low drive past Urbig.
Six minutes on, Bayern reclaimed the lead when Dayot Upamecano headed in from close range after Kane had nodded a delivery back across the face of goal.
Kane rattled the woodwork once more, hitting the bar after being played through by Nathaniel Brown, though the flag was raised regardless.
Fabio Silva then fired a strike beyond Urbig to earn the visitors a point in the 89th minute. In the final minute of stoppage time, Bayern’s Lennart Karl hit the bar, but the hosts could not grab the victory.
Bayern were again overseen by assistant Aaron Danks, with manager Vincent Kompany having left hospital this week, and the draw keeps them top of the Bundesliga, ahead of Dortmund on goal difference.
