The Federal High Court in Lagos has rejected the bail application of Afolabi Michael, a socialite popularly known as KC Luxury, in his alleged cocaine trafficking and money laundering trial.
In a ruling on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Justice Musa Kakaki held that the application lacked sufficient evidence to justify granting bail.
KC Luxury is standing trial alongside Boniface Freeman Ochoche Sule and Ikechukwu Ekugo Patriarch on a 22-count charge bordering on the alleged conspiracy to export 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine to the United Kingdom and money laundering.
The defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Why the Court Rejected KC Luxury’s Bail Application
Delivering his ruling, Kakaki said the court had not been presented with a medical certificate to support the socialite’s request for bail on health grounds.
“There is no medical certificate to warrant the court to grant him bail,” the judge said.
“If there is special medical need for the first defendant, where a suspect claims an illness, an expert in the field would have given an explanation.”
Despite rejecting the application, the judge directed officials of the Ikoyi custodial centre to give KC Luxury unrestricted access to doctors and medical experts for the treatment of any health condition.
The court also ordered an accelerated hearing of the case and adjourned proceedings until November 2, 2026, for the commencement of trial.
KC Luxury Arrives at Court in Ambulance
The bail ruling followed proceedings on Friday, October 23, when KC Luxury was brought to the court premises in an ambulance while reportedly receiving oxygen.
A correctional service officer told the court that the defendant was “critically ill” and had been hospitalised. The officer also called a nurse to testify about his medical condition.
Bukki Yahya, a nurse attached to the Police Hospital in Falomo, Lagos, told the court that Michael was admitted to the hospital on October 7, 2026.
According to Yahya, he was diagnosed with asthma and sepsis.
The nurse explained that the socialite remained inside the ambulance at the court premises because he was receiving oxygen.
The case is scheduled to resume on November 2, 2026, as the court moves to expedite proceedings.
