Dayo Israel, national youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has faced social media criticism after announcing that he distributed brand-new 2026 Toyota Prado SUVs to selected youth leaders for election mobilisation.
Israel disclosed the distribution in a now-deleted post on Sunday, in which he thanked Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Tinubu, for supporting the party structure under his leadership.
“Today, I presented brand new 2026 Prado to my committed selected youth leaders to aid their election mobilisation activities. I am grateful to my Mummy, H.E Mrs Oluremi Tinubu for her continuous support to the party structure under my leadership,” he wrote.
He added: “The party is supreme and that supremacy will show in our actions in this election period — we will deliver polling unit by polling unit.”
Israel did not disclose the cost of the vehicles or the source of funding for their purchase.
Although he deleted the post about three hours after publishing it, screenshots and reactions had already circulated on X, with users questioning the reported distribution amid Nigeria’s economic challenges.
Nigerians question timing of Prado distribution
An X user, Harmless, questioned the timing of the announcement, contrasting it with concerns about hunger and hardship in the country.
“Yesterday in Kaduna, Tinubu was blaming the opposition for the hunger and hardship in the country. Today, Dayo Israel, APC youth leader is casually dashing out 2026 Prado SUV to his fellow youth leaders,” the user wrote.
Another X user, Prince Adeshina, questioned how the vehicles were funded and compared the reported purchase with equipment shortages in Nigerian hospitals.
“Most hospitals in Nigeria don’t have MRI machines, yet Dayo Israel, a national youth leader of the APC, can buy seven 2026 Prados for his friends? Where did he get the money?” he wrote.
The reactions centred on the cost of the vehicles, the source of funding and the decision to distribute them for election mobilisation.
Israel’s deleted post did not provide further details about the purchase or the identities of the recipients.
