The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has extended its petrol sales discount across its retail stations nationwide until October 31, 2026, as Nigerians grapple with rising fuel prices linked to the Middle East conflict.
The company said the initiative aims to provide direct relief to households, businesses and the wider economy amid elevated global crude oil prices and their impact on domestic petrol costs.
In a statement issued by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, NNPC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to ease the financial burden on Nigerians.
The company acknowledged that rising petrol prices affect daily commuting, business operations and household expenses, adding that the discount was designed to offer practical support during the difficult period.
NNPC Extends Petrol Discount After Federal Government Announcement
The extension follows an announcement by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, on October 8, 2026, concerning a petrol price of ₦1,350 per litre for one month as part of measures to provide relief to Nigerians.
NNPC explained that it had introduced the sales discount on October 1 to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, before the minister’s announcement.
The company said the initiative would now run until October 31 across NNPC Retail stations nationwide.
However, NNPC stressed that the discount should not be interpreted as the restoration of petroleum subsidy.
NNPC Clarifies Petrol Pricing Policy
The national oil company said the initiative applies exclusively to NNPC Retail outlets and does not establish a uniform pump price nationwide.
It also clarified that the discount does not change the market-based pricing framework governing petroleum products.
According to the statement, the measure is a customer relief initiative intended to provide practical support while allowing the company to maintain commercially responsible operations.
NNPC urged Nigerians to disregard claims suggesting that the discount represents a return to fuel subsidy.
Company Reaffirms Commitment to Nigerians
NNPC said it would continue working with the Federal Government and other stakeholders to support reliable petroleum supply and ease the impact of rising fuel prices.
The company also pledged to communicate the scope and duration of its customer initiatives clearly to help Nigerians make informed purchasing decisions.
It thanked Nigerians for their continued patronage and reiterated its commitment to responsible customer service, reliable supply and transparent communication about its products and prices.
