President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to give his administration more time, saying his government is correcting mistakes and missed opportunities inherited from past administrations.
Tinubu spoke on Friday through House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas at a special prayer session at the National Mosque in Abuja to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The President said peace and development were gradually returning to the country, urging Nigerians not to lose hope.

According to Abbas, who delivered Tinubu’s message at the event, the country had reached a level of maturity after 66 years of independence despite a mixed journey marked by challenges and missed opportunities.
He said the government was addressing what he described as “the cumulative mistakes and the missed opportunities of the past”.
“Nigeria is on the right path; that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and that Nigerians have finished making sacrifices for this country to be great again.”
Tinubu also called for continued support for his administration to enable it complete its ongoing work.
“We should give this government more opportunity for it to come back and finish the good work [it has started].”
Officials attend Independence prayers
The event was attended by senior government officials, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, state governors, National Assembly members, ministers and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume.
Military chiefs were also present at the special prayer session.
The President’s message was delivered as Nigeria marked 66 years of independence, with a call for continued hope in the country’s democratic journey.
