Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), arrived in Jos, Plateau State, on Tuesday for a solidarity visit to Mangu Local Government Area in the aftermath of a recent horrific attack on local communities.
Plateau State executives and NDC chieftains met Obi at the Yakubu Gowon Airport in Heipang.
Our correspondent learned that the visit is intended to identify with victims and families affected by the recent incident, which apparently killed many locals, injured others, and destroyed properties.
Party supporters and other stakeholders gathered to welcome Obi, who is anticipated to travel to Mangu to examine the situation and meet with victims, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
During his visit, the NDC presidential contender is expected to grieve with families who have lost loved ones and offer words of encouragement to communities who are still dealing with the consequences of the attacks.
He is also expected to hear firsthand testimonies from survivors and community leaders about the incident’s circumstances as well as the security challenges that local communities face.
The visit is anticipated to attract increased attention to the suffering of communities hit by periodic attacks in portions of Plateau State, as residents and stakeholders ask for immediate action to protect lives and property.
Obi is also expected to fight for more security and long-term support for victims of violent attacks, as well as urging relevant authorities to take decisive action to break the cycle of killings and displacement in vulnerable areas.
