Liverpool has finalized an agreement valued at up to £123m for Paris St-Germain’s forward Bradley Barcola.
PSG first assessed the French forward at £145m, but Liverpool has settled on a deal totaling £106m upfront with an additional £17m in possible bonuses.
The 23-year-old is anticipated to undergo a medical examination this weekend prior to signing a long-term deal at Anfield.
Right-footed Barcola likes to play on the left wing, and his soon-to-come arrival will raise uncertainties about Cody Gakpo’s future at Liverpool.
Various sources have informed BBC Sport that both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City are interested in the Netherlands striker.
Liverpool is also looking for a right-winger, having considered transfers for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr.
Barcola has emerged as a primary target for Liverpool as they aim to strengthen their offense after losing Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah over the last two summers.
He transferred to PSG from Lyon in 2023 for an estimated £38.5m and has secured three Ligue 1 championships, two Champions League titles, and the French Cup on two occasions, along with the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
The payment Liverpool has consented to includes settling a solidarity fee that PSG owes Lyon linked to the transfer of Barcola to Paris three years prior.
Barcola, who netted three goals for France in this summer’s World Cup, is capable of playing on the right or centrally and may offer support for Alexander Isak as Hugo Ekitike recuperates from a significant Achilles injury.
Ahead of Saturday’s match against Nottingham Forest (12:30 BST), Reds manager Andoni Iraola addressed questions regarding Gakpo’s future, stating he “cannot guarantee anything” but hopes to retain the 27-year-old on the team.
“[Gakpo] has been very good since he came back from the World Cup and his holiday, with a very good attitude. I hope we can keep him at that level because I think he has been very influential in our games,” Iraola said.
