Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the re-election of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, as governor of Osun State.
The singer, who played a major role in his uncle’s campaign, erupted in excitement on Sunday after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner of the governorship election.
“WE DID IT UNC !!! @aadeleke_01,” Davido wrote on X alongside a video celebrating the victory.
The Grammy-nominated singer had been watching Channels Television’s live coverage of the results with members of his team and waited for the official declaration.
When Returning Officer Joshua Ogunwole announced Adeleke as the winner, Davido jumped up, knelt and eventually lay on the floor in celebration as his team joined him.
Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, secured 511,067 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam came third with 17,180 votes.
The governor won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.
Ogunwole declared Adeleke the winner early on Sunday, saying he had satisfied the requirements of the law.
Davido’s role in Adeleke’s campaign
Davido was deeply involved in the campaign, serving as chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Campaign Council.
He also suspended parts of his music career to mobilise support for his uncle, taking part in rallies and grassroots activities while using his social media platforms to encourage voters.
In the final days before the election, the singer intensified his campaign activities, urging voters to reject violence and intimidation and protect their votes.
On election day, Davido remained active online, commenting on emerging results and calling on supporters to monitor the collation process. He also urged INEC and other authorities to ensure transparency in the announcement of the results.
His involvement brought significant visibility to Adeleke’s campaign, with rallies attracting large crowds and generating widespread attention online.
Jubilation across Osun
Following INEC’s declaration, celebrations broke out across Osun, particularly in Osogbo, the state capital, and Ede, Adeleke’s hometown.
Supporters gathered around the INEC collation centre in Osogbo and outside the governor’s residence in Ede, singing and dancing to celebrate his return for another four-year term.
Adeleke first won the Osun governorship election in 2022. His latest victory secures a second term after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party in December 2025.
