The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) branch, has declared a total and indefinite strike over the non-implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement.
Adeleke is running for re-election on the Accord Party platform after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, which he represented when he won the governorship in 2022.
In Saturday’s election, he will compete against All Progressives Congress candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam, among others.
According to him, union members will not return to lecture halls based solely on promises or commitments unless the state government takes tangible action.
“The union has just declared an indefinite, total, and comprehensive strike over the non-implementation of the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN)/ASUU 2025 agreement.
“The resolution is that if that agreement is not implemented here, and the arrears from January are not paid, we are not going to resume.
“We are not ready to listen to anything like commitment again. What we want now is action,” he said.
The union leader raised alarm over the state government’s unwillingness to implement the package, adding that numerous other states had already begun implementation.
“Why will our own be different in Ondo State, an oil-producing state?” he queried.
Speaking on possible intervention by the state governor, Oshodi stated that while the union remained open to dialogue, resumption of work would not precede full implementation and payment.
“The union is always open, but the truth of the matter is that the implementation must commence, and the arrears from January to date must be paid,” he emphasized.
According to NAN, the FGN-ASUU 2025 deal includes enhanced remuneration structures, a 40% review for academic staff, and the payment of accumulated salary arrears.
This comes after the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Imo State University, Owerri branch, declared a total and indefinite strike on Monday, citing the Imo State government and university management’s failure to implement an agreement on improved welfare and working conditions for academic staff.
