Five Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, terrorists, including a medical officer and four Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, specialists, have been killed in a premature explosion while assembling explosives in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed on Tuesday that the incident occurred at Maina Daya Village, located between Sabon Tumbu and Jubilaram, about 29 kilometres east of the Monguno Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, the explosion killed Usman Dan Fulani, an ISWAP medical officer, two foreign Arab IED technicians, and two ISWAP bomb-making experts.
According to sources, the event occurred when the terrorists were allegedly manufacturing improvised explosive devices for deployment, implying that the organisation was planning additional attacks along important military supply routes in Sector 1 of Operation HADIN KAI.
Security analysts say the loss of experienced bombmakers is a serious setback to ISWAP’s IED network, potentially weakening the group’s capacity to carry out roadside bomb strikes along the Marte-Monguno axis.
According to military sources, troops from Operation HADIN KAI have been directed to capitalize on the development by increasing patrols, cordon-and-search operations, and precision offensive actions in the Monguno, Marte, and Gamboru Ngala areas to prevent the terrorist group from regrouping or rebuilding its IED capabilities.
